Outline of the case A consumer purchased two round tickets for Incheon-Prague via a Swedish online flight booking agent and paid total of KRW 2,455,549 for the tickets. Through internet searching, however, he found cheaper tickets (by KRW 143,000 per person) for the same itinerary a day after the booking with the Swedish agent. Supposing he could be better off from the cancellation of the booking with the Swedish agent even with the cancellation fee charged, he requested the agent to cancel the booking. Later the Swedish online flight booking agent, however, informed that the cancellation fee was raised to KRW 324,200 per person and it would refund the corresponding amounts to the consumer based on the revised cancellation fee. Claiming its unfair, unjustifiable business practices, the consumer requested the Swedish booking agent to charge the cancellation fee and issue the refund as aforementioned. Final outcome As it is based in Sweden, the subject booking agent is governed by the Swedish law. Hence we advised the consumer to file his petition to the Swedish consumer protection agency with the attachments supporting his claims. In addition to the contact information of the Swedish consumer agency, we have informed the consumer of how to file his petition. As per his request, we have also provided our language service for translating the contents of the claims to the consumer.
