Warranty period for TV with unidentified date of purchase Question: I requested an after-sales service for my broken TV. Claiming the warranty period elapsed, a technician from the manufacturer said I need to pay for the repair service. Though the receipt is gone, I believe I purchased the TV about 11 months ago, which still makes me to call for the free repair service under the warranty clause. But the manufacturer insisted that the warranty period should be counted from the date of manufacture in case the sales receipt is not provided. According to their calculation, the warranty period for my TV ended a month ago. I feel this is absurd and the manufacturer is taking advantage of the situation. Do I have to pay for the repair service? Answer: For home appliances, the manufacturer shall provide a free warranty service within a year from the date of purchase. In case the date of purchase is not identified, the warranty period shall be counted from three months after the date of manufacturer or of import customs clearance. If the date of manufacture or of customs clearance is not provided, the seller shall prove the date of sales.
