Highlight of the case:

In the last couple of months, many Korean consumers have filed complaints against LuxStyle Aps and Lux International Aps, both of which are presumed to be based in the EU. According to the consumers, the merchants have been aggressively promoting their products (mainly beauty goods) through leading social media platforms including Facebook.

When consumers tried to place orders for some of the products via the merchants’ online shopping malls, however, they experienced errors in payment for the orders. Therefore the consumers assumed their orders did not go through. But a few days/weeks later, the merchants sent the very items to the consumers without any notice or consent from them. Moreover, the merchants charged outrageous fees for the reason of late payment.

The consumers claimed LuxStyle and Lux International have been doing fraudulent business practices in the global marketplace through social media. Upon filing the complaints, the consumers asked us to investigate the subject merchants and demanded to block their predatory, unfair as well as totally unacceptable marketing practices.

Conclusion:

After careful review of the complaints backed by sufficient evidences, we have drawn a conclusion that the two merchants have seriously violated consumer protection regulations and other applicable legislations in Korea. From our investigation, we also found out thousands of consumers around the globe have been hurt by the merchants’ online scam and many consumer organizations as well as law enforcement agents across the country have their eyes on the subject companies. 

By sending an official request, we therefore demanded the merchants to stop harassing consumers and to cease such a typical online scam without delay. We also asked them not to mail the request of outrageous late fees and to retrieve the items unilaterally sent at their own expenses. A few days later, the merchants replied that no more billings will be sent to the consumers and confirmed the transaction will be nullified.
